Aberdeen (South Dakota) Youth Wrestling Club (AYWC)

The Aberdeen (South Dakota) Youth Wrestling Club will provide an encouraging and fun atmosphere for your child (grades K-6th) to learn basic and advanced fundamentals in the sport of wrestling. Our program emphasizes the importance of leadership, responsibility, dedication and hard work with the goal to instill these qualities in our wrestlers. Through practice, skills repetition, games, drills and competition; we strive to build a foundation for future champions and take pride in every member of our team.

Practice Policies and Procedures

While we are working on where we will practice, we have adopted the following procedures on how we will handle practice. These are subject to change:

Youth Wrestling – 2020 Modified Program

Expectations of Parents

  • Parents will be aware of symptoms of COVID-19 and agree to not send their wrestler to practice if they have any of the following:
    • Fever, chills, sore throat, cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive fatigue, new onset shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell, unexplained muscle pain, unexplained headache, nasal congestion or a pending COVID test
    • Identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19
  • Parents will ensure their wrestler will mask when entering the building and while readying for practice.
  • Parents may accompany youth up to second grade into practice, but then must leave.  Parents must mask while in the building.
  • Parents will notify AYWC of an athlete positive for COVID that attended a practice while symptomatic or 48 hours prior to symptom development.  AYWC will maintain parent & athlete confidentiality but will be able to monitor athletes who were close contacts to this individual.

Athlete Entrance:

  • Doors will open 10 min prior to scheduled practice to allow wrestlers enough time to prepare for practice.
  • Representative from AYWC will temperature check wrestlers as they arrive, ensure they are wearing a mask and will remind them of rules and expectations.
  • Roster will be kept for contact tracing purposes.  Each practice will be limited to 40 athletes and 10 coaches/AYWC representatives to assist with practice.  This adheres to the COVID 19 guidelines for capacity in a space.

Prior to practice:

  • They will remain masked at this time.
  • Once athletes enter the wrestling space, they can remove their mask and place it with their water bottle at edge of mat. 
  • Coaches will direct athletes to have their water bottle/mask combination spaced out.
  • Wrestlers will sit on the mat, maintaining appropriate distance and wait for practice to start.  There will be no free play prior to practice.

After practice:

  • Athlete will put on their mask prior to changing shoes and readying to leave.
  • Parents will wait for athletes outside if their child is able to be independentParents who need to assist their child with shoes/gear will meet them to assist them.

Cleaning Procedures:

  • Mat will be cleaned before and after practice
  • A representative from AYWC will also wipe high touch surfaces from entrance to room (stair-rails, door knobs) prior to leaving for the evening

Masking/PPE: 

  • Coaches will be masked at all times.  Athletes will be masked with the exception of direct practice time.

6:00-6:30 pm New members only @ Mall

6:30-7:45 pm  Beginners and Intermediates @ Mall

Enter in the front location and wear a mask.

Advanced practice 6:00-7:30pm @NSU wrestling room
